It looks like residents in Metro Vancouver will finally have a prolonged period of warm and sunny weather to enjoy.

According to Environment Canada, sunshine and a high of 24°C by the water at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and 28°C further inland is forecasted for the region, and similar conditions are expected for at least a week. There is a small chance of light showers in the morning on Friday before the skies clear up late morning.

The conditions are being caused by a powerful high pressure system off the coast. It comes just after consecutive weeks of relatively cool weather and grey and gloomy skies with 32.8 mm of rain recorded at YVR since the start of the month. In contrast, July 2015 saw just 1.4 mm.

The optimal beach forecast comes just ahead of the Honda Celebration of Light fireworks festival at English Bay. Currently, forecasts call for a mix of sun and cloud and a high of 22°C on Saturday when the team from Netherlands takes to the skies.
