Mak N Ming now serving French-Japanese tasting menus in Kitsilano

The much-anticipated debut of chefs Makoto Ono and Amanda Cheng’s Mak N Ming in Kitsilano has arrived. Following a short period in soft-opening, the French-Japanese all tasting menu restaurant is open for business on Yew Street.

Named in part for the chef duo’s food-centric Instagram account, Ono and Cheng told Daily Hive earlier this year that “Mak” is short for “Makoto” and “Ming” is Cheng’s anglicized Chinese name.

Mak N Ming has two sets of menus available for dinner: A “demi” menu opens with a “first bite” amuse bouche and is followed by three courses ($54), while the full Chef’s Menu includes six courses after the “first bite” ($78). Vegetarian options are available by request.

The restaurant’s meld of Japanese and French flavours and techniques is evident in their visually appealing creations, from dishes like a nori (seaweed) topped bun to crab noodle soup.

To accompany the food, Mak N Ming has a couple of classic cocktail selections, sake, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages. The small restaurant is offering dinner service from 5 to 11 pm, and reservations are recommended.
