March 20 is Macaron Day, and Vancouver is ready to celebrate the delicate confection.

“Le Jour du Macaron” was started in 2005 in Paris by pastry chef Pierre Hermé, and the tradition continues on around the world.

In Vancouver, several cafés and bakeries specializing in macarons are having special events in honour of Macaron Day, many of which include a charitable component. Here is how you can celebrate Macaron Day 2017 in the city, and eat beautiful, delicious macarons for a cause.

Thierry Cafe

Vancouver’s celebrated decadent destination, Thierry Cafe, will be offering a special dark chocolate dipped strawberry and cream macaron on March 20.  They’re $3 apiece with 10% of all macaron sales benefitting St. Paul’s Hospital. Macarons will be available starting at 10 am. Additional macaron flavours can be found online.

For the third year in a row, Faubourg Paris will be celebrating the international Macaron Day on March 20. The trio of charming boulangeries-pâtisseries will offer its signature macarons for just $1.50 and donate 100% of gross proceeds to a charity society. The objective this year is to sell 10,000 macarons again, which would result in a $15,000 donation. Be warned, last year Faubourg was sold out by 2:30 pm.

Bon Macaron

For Macaron Day, Bon Macaron will be giving away two free macarons with every 6-pack purchased. The really special part of Bon Macaron’s promo is that the customer gets to pick the cause. $5 from every 6-pack sold will go to the charity of your choice. Buy more, and, of course, your favourite organization gets more.
