While late night bars and restaurants provide great social spaces to hangout when you’re in the mood for booze or a lavish meal, sometimes an evening simply calls for a casual and inexpensive nook, where you can catch up with friends over a hot beverage and a yummy dessert, unwind, or even study.

Read on to discover 13 late night independent cafes, serving excellent espresso aimed at keeping you wired well into the evening.

49th Parallel – Main Street

You’ll find impeccably made espressos at 49th Parallel’s Main Street outpost. With such satisfying brews (plus a case full of irresistible doughnuts from Lucky’s) and a 10 pm closing time, expect this Mount Pleasant favourite to be packed to capacity all day/night long.

Thanks to a recently acquired liquor license, Porto Café is now open until 9 pm (11 pm come the fall) and serves wine and charcuterie boards.
