Granville Street nightclub assault victim dies

A 28-year-old woman who was allegedly physically assaulted early Thursday morning outside Caprice Nightclub on Granville Street has died.

According to Vancouver Police, the incident occurred just before 2 am when the victim was assaulted by two other women.

She reportedly had a brief altercation with the two women inside the club just minutes earlier.

The suspects fled from the scene after the attack. Approximately 30 minutes later, as they left a taxi near Hastings and Abbott streets, police arrested two women believed to be involved in the assault.

Police say the young woman was pronounced dead on Thursday night. Both suspects have been interviewed and released from custody pending further investigation and results of an autopsy.

Police are treating the incident as homicide, the fifth in Vancouver this year.
