9-year-old girl dies after being hit by transit bus in Abbotsford

A nine-year-old girl is dead after she was hit by a transit bus in Abbotsford on Friday morning.

At 8:22 am, emergency crews responded to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian at South Fraser Way and Hill-Tout Street.

Upon their arrival at the scene, police, fire and ambulance personnel found the young girl suffering from critical injuries.

The victim was immediately taken to hospital, but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries, shortly after her arrival.

The driver of the transit bus remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators, police said.

Abbotsford Police Department Major Crime Unit detectives, Collision Reconstructionists, Patrol Division officers and BC Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement Investigators are all now investigating the incident.

In a statement, The Abbotsford Police Department said it offers its condolences “to the family and friends of this young girl.”
