Genie’s coming to town.

The Odlum Brown VanOpen just got an injection of star power, as Genie Bouchard has confirmed her attendance at the West Vancouver tennis tournament, beginning this week.

“We are thrilled to have a player like Eugenie Bouchard join us for this year’s Odlum Brown VanOpen. We continue to try to grow the event each year and provide fans with the best possible tennis experience,” said tournament director Rik de Voest. “Having Eugenie here along with other high-profile Canadian players like Vasek Pospisil, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Gabriela Dabrowski, Carol Zhao, Rebecca Marino and Peter Polansky – just to name a few – will help take the tournament to a new level.”

The Odlum Brown VanOpen, part of the ATP Challenger Tour and the ITF Women’s Circuit, returned to the Hollyburn Country Club last year after a one-year hiatus.

This is Bouchard’s first time playing at the VanOpen since 2011. Her first match will likely be on Wednesday.

Ranked as high as No. 5 in the world, Bouchard has made more news off the court than on it recently. The 24-year-old from Montreal is currently ranked 129th on the WTA Tour.

Bouchard’s best recent result was a semi-finals appearance at the Gstaad Open in Switzerland last month.

Genie was at her peak in 2014, becoming the first Canadian to compete in a Grand Slam singles final at Wimbledon, to go with a pair of semi-finals appearances at the Australian Open and French Open.
