Freezing rain warning for Metro Vancouver

Feb 9 2017, 11:12 pm

The wild weather continues in Vancouver today prompting Environment Canada to extend the Winter Storm warning that has been in place for the region this week.

The warning, which was issued early Thursday morning, says that hazardous winter conditions are expected today as heavy rainfall follows yesterday’s snow. Freezing rain is also expected in some areas adding to already treacherous road conditions throughout the region.

“All areas of the South Coast are reporting significant precipitation as a strong warm front moves into the region,” Environment Canada warns.” Rain and freezing rain are occurring over southern sections of Vancouver Island and in Metro Vancouver this morning. The freezing rain will change to rain this morning as temperatures rise above freezing.”

As a result of the wintery weather surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible as the snow begins to melt.
