Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is issuing a public alert following what it says is the discovery of a man claiming to be a registered and qualified surgeon with its organization and operating out of Vancouver General Hospital.

On its website, VCH said it has been made aware that Asten Nguyen Phong Nguyen (“Dr. Nguyen Nguyen”) “has been advertising his services as a surgeon operating out of Vancouver General Hospital, and asking prospective patients to pay him a deposit for their surgery.”

This individual, they added, “has no affiliation with VCH, he is not registered with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia, and he is not authorized to practise medicine in the province.”

For patients who have already paid  Nguyen Nguyen a deposit for surgery, VCH is advising them to contact the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC and your local police department to report their concerns immediately.

In addition, members of the public who wish to verify a registered physician or surgeon’s qualifications, credentials and affiliations should conduct a search on the College’s Physician Directory.
