An 86-year-old woman has died of her injuries after she was hit by an electric scooter in Coquitlam, recently.

On Thursday, Coquitlam RCMP said that last Friday morning, the woman was at the corner of Austin Avenue and Westview Street when she was “bumped” by the scooter.

The impact caused the woman to lose her balance and fall.

As a result of the fall, the woman suffered serious injuries, which ultimately proved to be fatal.

Now, police are asking the public for help in finding the scooter’s operator.

“At this point this looks like a tragic accident with no criminal intent,” said Coquitlam RCMP Cpl. Michael McLaughlin. “But we still need to talk to the operator of the scooter to hear his side of the story.”

McLaughlin said witnesses have described the scooter operator as a 40 to 50 year-old Caucasian man, with a full head of grey hair and of average build.

The electric mobility scooter he was riding is described as silver or grey with no basket on the front.

Anyone with information that could help identify the man is asked to call the Coquitlam RCMP non-emergency line at 604-945-1550, and quote file: 2017-29546.
