Full closure of Broadway and Commercial Drive this weekend for SkyTrain construction

TransLink is warning drivers to avoid the area around SkyTrain’s Commercial-Broadway Station this weekend as it will be completely closed to vehicles to allow for major construction work on the station expansion.

Road closures on East Broadway between Commercial Drive and North Grandview Highway will escalate to a shutdown of all eastbound and westbound lanes from 10 pm on Friday, September 29 to midnight on Sunday, October 1.

A full closure is necessary for the erection of the steel structure for the new additional pedestrian overpass above Broadway that will provide more foot traffic capacity between the Expo Line platforms and the Millennium Line platforms.

Other major improvements in this latest $60-million phase of the station’s upgrades include the construction of a fourth platform for Expo Line’s inbound direction into downtown and a wider pedestrian walkway over the Grandview Cut to access the Millennium Line platforms.

Partial lane closures in the area began earlier this month, and the bus stops for the 9 trolley and 99 B-Line have been temporarily relocated.

There will be two additional full road closures next month, but both closures will occur during the late night and early morning hours only. The roadway will also be closed on Monday, October 2 from midnight to 6 am and Friday, October 6 from 10 pm to 4 am.

Station renovations are slated to be completed in summer 2018.
