The City of Bhangra Festival, recently renamed 5X, is returning to Metro Vancouver this June with events in both Vancouver and Surrey.
Spread across a number of venues from Wednesday, June 13 to Sunday, June 17, the dazzling and unique festival will highlight the best in creative performances, cutting-edge art, and a celebration of Bhangra – the Punjabi folk arts.
Here are some of the highlighted events in the upcoming festival:
The Space, a beautiful pop-up art gallery in Yaletown will display the best in South Asian Art, showcasing a wide array of contemporary art from more than eight featured artists.
The Annex, a performing arts venue, will be transformed into a pop-up gallery displaying a wide array of contemporary art from more than eight featured artists.
5X is presenting the world’s first 2 vs 2 Bhangra competition. The tournament-style contest will have the finalists dance in front of celebrity judges including Manpreet Toor and other special guests. The top 32 teams will compete on June 16 and 17, with the winning team taking home $1000.
YouTubers, musicians, actors, and creatives will come together to talk about what inspires them. The Fanfest will feature live music, authentic food, and selfie booths as well as panels and a Q&A session.
The free block party features several of Vancouver’s most prominent South Asian DJs including Khanvict, DIVINE, DJ Rekha, DJ Swift, and DJ Impact.
The 5X Festival After Party, held minutes away from the Block Party, is a 19+ event with live music from DJ Rekha and DJ Apogee. After a long week of events, planning, and preparation, it’s a chance for everyone who participated and organized the event to celebrate its success.
