The new entertainment options planned for the redeveloped Brentwood Town Centre shopping mall, now known as ‘The Amazing Brentwood’, could rival those currently found at Metropolis at Metrotown.

In fact, it could even provide a throwback to those who remember Metrotown’s Playdium, which was shut in 2005 and replaced with a Winners.

At the 20,700 ft² VIP Cinemas, guests can watch a movie in luxurious La-Z-Boy-like recliners and have meals, snacks, and beverages from a wide and diverse menu – even wines, spirits, and premium craft beers – delivered to their seats.

A VIP Cinemas Lounge outside the auditoriums will also provide guests with the option to enjoy their food and drinks before or after a movie at their leisure.

This will be Metro Vancouver’s fifth full-service VIP Cinemas experience by Cineplex, joining  Cineplex Cinemas Abbotsford and SilverCity Coquitlam alongside the purpose built VIP venue at Marine Gateway.

It also follows hot on the heels of yesterday’s announcement that Cineplex is set to open a new 11 screen cinema at Park Royal shopping centre in West Vancouver.

The Rec Room, a new Playdium, will be a BC first

The Rec Room that will form part of Cineplex’s new development will feature more than 100 arcade machines, virtual reality games, and simulators. Within the 44,000 ft², there will also be air hockey and pool tables, ping pong and a bowling alley.

Cineplex is also set to serve up food and drink options in the form of an upscale casual restaurant named ‘Three10’, alongside a quick service eatery dubbed ‘The Shed’ that will boast a poutinerie and a custom donut bar.

Sports fans will also be covered with a bar area bar area where you can grab a drink and catch the game on massive HD screens. There will also be private dining rooms designed for celebrations, corporate events, and parties.

The Rec Room will also provide Burnaby with a new state-of-the-art auditorium space for live performances and programmed entertainment.

“We are very pleased that Cineplex has chosen The Amazing Brentwood for both of its flagship concepts, including the first location of The Rec Room in BC,” said Darren Kwiatkowski, Executive Vice President of Development and Design of Shape Properties, the developer behind The Amazing Brentwood.

The new Rec Room will be one of 10 to 15 new entertainment venues that Cineplex is set to open across Canada to replace their Playdium concept, which is no longer being expanded and has one remaining location at Mississauga’s Square One.

Cineplex opened its first Rec Room, the evolution of Playdium, in Edmonton last fall and a second location will open at the West Edmonton Mall this summer. The company has already announced additional locations in downtown Toronto at Roundhouse Park, CF Masonville Place in London, Square One in Mississauga, and Deerfoot City in Calgary. Other locations in Metro Vancouver have not been announced.

Construction of Cineplex’s VIP Cinemas and Rec Room is scheduled to begin later this year for an opening in 2019.
