The Ultimate Vancouver Brunch Guide: Charlie's Little Italian

Jul 10 2016, 7:39 am

We’re taking a tasty tour of Vancouver’s many brunches to create The Ultimate Vancouver Brunch Guide. This week we’re enjoying an unpretentious late-morning meal (with a coffee in one hand and a forkful of deliciousness in the other) at Charlie’s Little Italian.

Brunch at Charlie’s Little Italian ticks all the right boxes to set you up for a fabulous weekend. It’s reasonably priced, boozy, and downright delicious.

While most people know Charlie’s Little Italian as a casual nighttime haunt serving up heaping bowls of pasta, come the weekend the Main Street spot goes full throttle and offers diners a delectable range of mid-morning temptations.

Taking its cue from the restaurant’s Italian roots, Charlie’s Saturday and Sunday brunch menu features traditional brunch dishes with an Italian twist — think polenta and eggs, a breakfast calzone, a hearty meatball sandwich, Italian hash, and more.

A solid Eggs Benedict list with eight variations is an obvious draw. In addition to the wildly popular Bacon Benny (double smoked bacon and avocado–yes please!), Charlie’s offers a Chicken Parm Benny, a Bolognese Benny, a Prosciutto Benny, and even a Vegan Benny, which is made up of crispy tofu “eggs,” avocado, heirloom tomato jam, and a cashew saffron “Hollandaise” sauce.

The classic “big breakfast” plate is alluring and huge. Consisting of two scrambled eggs, fennel sausage, smoked bacon, meatballs, white bean cassoulet, toast, and hash browns, The Fat Charlie is a seriously substantial meal.

Those who enjoy eating their brunch in sandwich form should not go past Charlie’s Breakfast Sandwich. Made up of two over medium eggs, Pecorino Romano, arugula, Roma tomatoes, just the right amount of truffle aioli, and the choice of a prosciutto add-on, this carb-tastic treat is the perfect unifier of ingredients.

To wash brunch down Charlie’s offers a range of enticing brunch cocktails. Alongside Aperol Spritzes, Bellinis, and Mimosas, Charlie’s offers two weekend specials: a Caesar and a coffee with a splash of Baileys. Those who prefer their coffee sans Baileys have the option to choose from espressos, cappuccinos, lattes, and Americanos.
