You can see 14 Vancouver artists compete in a painting battle next month

Aug 25 2017, 12:55 am

There’s no denying it, Vancouver is home to a slew of talented artists.

And next month, you’ll have the chance to see 14 of the city’s best battling it out in a live art competition that you’ll never forget at the third annual Canvas of Change.

Hosted by Children of the Street Society, the event is taking place at St. James Hall on West 10th Avenue. But what’s really cool is that all proceeds raised will support high-risk youth involved in Children of the Street’s Youth Art Engagement Project.

On the night you’ll get to enjoy live music, culinary delights, a live auction, a bracelet toss, and of course an epic live art challenge. This year’s featured artists range in creative styles from contemporary, to street, abstract, and pop art. And they will be live painting their best work simultaneously in an 80 minute period. During this time, you can immerse yourself in the creative process by walking around the easels.

Once completed, the artists will take their works to the front stage to dry off and you can observe all of them side-by-side for one hour. If any of the artworks call your name you can bid on them during the live art auction later in the evening.

Early bird tickets to this creative pop-up event are on sale now costing $30 via Eventbrite. Make sure to snap up yours before the price increases to $40 after September 4.

Your ticket includes close-up viewing action of the art battle, access to the live and silent auctions, food, amazing live music, and one free drink.

The Youth Art Engagement Project is a free program offered for high-risk youth. The kids involved in the project are among the most vulnerable young people in Vancouver’s community. The project gives them information and tools they need to learn how to be safe from all forms of sexual exploitation. Using their creativity and knowledge, they design their own piece of social justice art to raise awareness of this issue.

For many of these children, this experience is life-changing and alters the direction of the path they were taking towards a more positive future. And you can help support this experience simply by attending Canvas of Change.
