Canada Day 2016 in Vancouver takes Canada Place back to Expo 86

This year’s Port of Vancouver Canada Day celebrations in Vancouver will be all about flashbacks to Expo 86, as Canada Place, built for Expo, turns 30 years old.

The event on July 1, which is the largest Canada Day party in the country outside of Ottawa, will feature 1980s fashion, arcade games, pogo sticks, and even Red Robinson’s Expo Theatre.

The Canada Day concert will include Aaron Pritchett, Barney Bentall, Mo Kenney, Bear Mountain, Rococode, Twin Kennedy and Willa.

The party will run all day long, from 10 am to 6 pm, at Canada Place, Jack Poole Plaza and the surrounding streets.

Other highlights will include a family-friendly licensed area, food carts, street hockey, and the traditional citizenship ceremony welcoming 60 new Canadians.

In the evening, celebrations continue with the Canada Day Parade, starting at 7 pm at Georgia and Broughton, and the Canada Day Fireworks Show at 10:30 pm in Burrard Inlet.
