The event unfolded after Abbotsford Police received a report from the public after a motorcycle was observed ‘jumping’ the border into the US at approximately 12:30 pm.

The Abbotsford Police relayed this information to the American authorities.

Shortly after 1 pm, the US Border Patrol contacted Langley RCMP to advise them that they had arrested a male on a motorcycle. They also reported that they had observed a second motorcyclist ‘jump’ the border northbound into Canada.

According to a release from Langley RCMP, the police were able to track the suspect via helicopter until he arrived at Willowbrook Mall.

The suspect then ditched the motorcycle in the parking lot and ran into the mall. Langley officers quickly arrived and began to search the mall.

The officers were unable to locate the suspect. However, using surveillance footage, they were able to identify the motorbike rider as a 49-year-old Langley man who was known to authorities.

The police also seized the motorcycle at the scene, which has since been determined was stolen from Abbotsford, with plates that were stolen from Surrey.

Subsequently, officers attended the suspect’s residence and observed him entering a vehicle with a female driver. They drove a short distance, pulled over, and the suspect was arrested without incident.

No weapons were found in his possession when he was arrested.
