There's a massive Gold-themed Easter Celebration happening in Vancouver's River District
Easter is fast-approaching and all you can think about is chocolate eggs. (That’s normal). But how do you really plan to spend Sunday, April 1?
Insider’s tip: River District in South Vancouver is hosting a one-day Golden Easter Celebration, and you’re invited. It’s going to be a fun, free event with something for everyone in the family to enjoy.
Fun fact: The shores along the Fraser River were home to one of BC’s biggest gold rushes in the 1850s. Now, River District is bringing gold fever back to the Fraser with a gold-themed event. From gold foiled chocolate eggs, to gold-dusted face painting, and cotton candy with (you guessed it) gold sprinkles – you’ll need to see it to believe it.
But that’s not all. There’s also going to be balloons, arts and crafts, and even a giant chocolate bunny draw. Chocolate egg hunts taking place on the day are full, but you can join the waitlist by emailing [email protected] with your child’s name and age.
The River District community is taking part in the festivities by giving out free delicious snacks and drinks. Starbucks (which is opening in the area this spring) will be giving out free coffee and hot chocolate, while Romer’s will be providing yogurt parfaits and mini doughnuts.
While you’re in the area, you can take advantage of the 1.5 km path along the river with two playgrounds where the kids can stop off to have some fun. This path connects to a continuous five kilometres of riverfront pathway that extends into Vancouver and Burnaby, where you can go on the ultimate Easter walk.
If you didn’t already know, River District is a master-planned community where you’ll find the awesome River District Neighbourhood Centre. The Centre hosts a variety of programs throughout the week, plus special events like their annual Easter egg hunts (this year a golden easter celebration), and seasonal farmers markets.
