A black bear was caught on camera last week, breaking into a bird house on Burnaby Lake.
The encounter was captured by keen wildlife enthusiast Bruce Causier, who went to the lake on Friday after hearing about a bear in the area.
“When my wife and I walked out on the dock (Piper Spit), we heard a big crack and all the ducks took off,” Causier told Daily Hive in an email.
The bear then proceed to prowl around the lake until it reached a bird house.
“When I seen it start pulling down the bird house I was hoping it was empty,” said Causier.
“But the bear took some time … indicating that there may have been something inside.”
While black bears mostly eat plants and berries, they are known to enjoy a taste for other food if they’re particularly hungry.
“I was very lucky to see the bear…I have never seen a bear do this before,” said Causier.
