Apple opening major corporate office in downtown Vancouver
Vancouver’s rapidly growing tech industry has won the attention of the world’s first trillion dollar company, as Apple has decided to open a major corporate office in the city centre.
Apple has leased 60,000-sq-ft of office space at the under-construction 400 West Georgia Street office tower, according to a recent third-quarter report by NAI Commercial on Metro Vancouver’s office market.
Other tenants that have been formally announced for the tower include Deloitte (moving from Four Bentall Centre, taking up about 117,000-sq-ft of space within the top 10 floors) and Amsterdam-based co-working company Spaces (120,000-sq-ft of space within the lower floors).
The 24-storey, 301-ft-tall, 375,000-sq-ft office tower is located at the southwest corner of West Georgia and Homer Street, just across from Vancouver Public Library’s Central Branch and the future offices of Amazon at the Canada Post redevelopment.
Local developer Westbank is behind the project, which is slated to reach completion in 2020.

The building, designed by architectural firms OSO and Merrick Architecture, has a unique stacked form inspired by Japanese cube lamps.
It features green living walls, glass floors, operable windows, patios, a two-storey landscaped rooftop terrace, and a “fresh air lobby” designed to resemble a rainforest. Despite its irregular shape, the floor plates offer an open office format suitable for tech firms, such as Apple.

The building will also have a ground-level retail space, but it is likely too small for the long-discussed Apple flagship store for the Vancouver market.
However, over the past few weeks, there have been rumours that Apple is seeking the three-storey, 32,000-sq-ft retail space expansion that has been approved for the northeast corner of West Georgia Street and Howe Street, replacing the shopping centre’s glass rotunda.
