9 adventure activities to try out in BC this summer

Long sunny days are just around the corner, and the call to adventure has never been greater. While beach days and bike rides are already rad summer classics, this is the year to amp up the fun and try something a bit more thrilling.

It’s time to get those bucket lists going and pencil some adrenaline into your calendars. To get you started here’s a list of 9 extreme adventure activities to try out this year.

Go skydiving

  • What: The creme de la creme of every bucket list out there. The perfect blood pumping activity for anyone crazy enough to jump out of a perfectly operating aeroplane.
  • Where: The Dropzone 5112 Gladwin Road, Abbotsford
  • When: Daily dives available at noon, 2 pm and 4 pm

  • What: The best vantage point to truly #explorebc. Fly through stretching mountain ranges, expansive glaciers and over magnificent waterfalls all without the gruel of a hike.

Bungee jump in Whistler

  • What: Bridge jumping at its finest. Whether you jump forwards, backwards, with a buddy or by your ankle, you can count on your heart rate rising long enough to get yourself hyped. 
  • Where: Whistler Bungee Bridge
  • When: 9:30 am – 6:30 pm
  • Tickets: $130 for first-time jumpers

Whitewater rafting

  • What: A 14 km long rafting trip of non-stop whitewater action. The ideal date idea for hardcore couples who aren’t afraid to get a little wet. For the extreme thrill seekers, you can choose to opt out of lunch time for an additional dose of rapid fun.

  • When: Departs daily at 8 am and noon

Sea kayak the Indian Arm

  • What: A 5-hour adventure perfectly suited to beginners. Try out your kayaking skills while admiring the Indian Arm from its ideal vantage point—the Indian Arm.

  • When: Sundays 10 am to 3 pm

Fly in a float plane over Salt Spring Island

  • What: A 20-minute air tour that will take your breath away all while consuming the entire SD card in your camera. If views could kill this would be your final adventure. Thankfully after your plane ride, you’ll have plenty of time to drive around and take a closer look at what Salt Spring has to offer.

Surf Tofino

  • What: If you can secure yourself a campsite or hotel in Tofino you’ve already won the lottery of life. But to really make your trip worthwhile then some surfing is an absolute must. Pro tip, make sure to head out early to catch the raddest of the daily waves.

  • When: 9 am to 5 pm
  • Tickets: $40 for a full day’s equipment rental

Learn to scuba dive

  • What: Scuba is your opportunity to see the world from six feet under and live to tell the tale. The certification includes five pool and four open ocean diving lessons and can be done over a few weeknights or a weekend.

Become a rock climber

  • What: Take an outdoor climbing course to learn the foundations of climbing and belaying. Once you’ve completed your course try your hand at all the local crags and cracks to ensure maximum immersion into the Vancouver/Squamish climbing scene.
