SkyTrain dates: 8 things to do around Surrey Central Station

To all the Surrey boys and girls out there, you live in a pretty interesting place. At the heart of it all, Surrey Central Station is a great jumping off point to take your Tinderella out on date night.

Avoid the tolls and Skytrain to Surrey Central Station for a walk in the park, a shopping spree, or a library study sesh.

North Surrey Recreation Centre

  • What: One of the best rec centres in the lower mainland. Complete with a pool, ice rink, huge weight room, fitness studio and more.
  • Where: 10275 City Parkway
  • When: 6 am – 9 pm Monday to Thursday, 6 am – 10 pm Friday, 7 am – 9 pm Saturday and 8 am – 9 pm Sunday
  • How much: $6.50 drop in

Sneak into a lecture at SFU

  • What: Your opportunity to get learnt for free. Choose a lecture hall, find a seat, and play a fun game of school subject roulette. Be prepared to learn about anything from Dickens to gerontology to computer science, make sure to bring a backpack for maximum student chameleon powers.

Go shopping at Guilford Town Centre

  • What: A 15-minute bus ride from Surrey Central, but well worth the commute. You may be tempted to hop off the train and shop at Central City shopping centre—don’t do it. Recently remodelled, Guilford Town Centre rivals Metrotown in size and has some of the best brands out there.

Walk on Whalley

  • What: A potentially thrilling walk through one of Surrey’s roughest and most populated areas. Also, the perfect location to practice your WALL-E impressions.

Wander Holland Park

  • What: The “Central Park” of Surrey. Home to the Holland Gardens, large sports fields, a few playgrounds, and outdoor summer concerts.

Watch the BC Lions train

  • What: Your chance to see the BC Lions play for free! Likely not as exciting as a real game, but behind the scenes action has its perks.

Back to school shopping at Staples

  • What: An organized adults wonderworld, because who doesn’t want colour coated stationary and matching pens.
