4 new outrageous food challenges to tackle in Metro Vancouver

While it’s always eating season for us foodies, something about the warm weather gets us pumped to tackle new culinary feats (mostly because we can nap in the sun in a food coma afterwards).

Recently there’s been a few new outrageous food challenges that have become available in Metro Vancouver, and we’re up to tackle all four of them.

10-pound poké bowl challenge at Riz Sushi


This is a two-person eating challenge, so it costs $60 per person to enter, and you’ve got to inhale this thing back in under 30 minutes. The dish itself is a humongous poké bowl full of crab salad, wakame, cucumber kimchi, edamame, pickled ginger, and masago served on a bed of white rice topped with fried garlic and shallots, and two pounds of fresh fish. Winners of this first round each get $50 gift cards to Riz, and they’ll be entered to win a trip to Las Vegas.

Colossal Tawainese Beef Noodle at Pearl Castle Café

Even though it’s an official food challenge, attempting to taking down Metro Vancouver’s largest Tawainese Beef Noodle dish is definitely a personal one. Pearl Castle Café offers this huge helping of the classic eastern dish, but only at its Continental Centre location in Richmond. The Beef Noodle Colossal’s size is equivalent to three or four bowls of a regular helping, and they claim it’s the biggest in the Vancouver area. Available in regular, tomato, or spicy, the creation is $30-$33 depending on which variety you choose.

$5 Ramen Challenge at Yuu Japanese Tapas

The challenge is simple: Finish your bowl of ramen (including broth) in under 10 minutes and you get it for only $5. Choose from shoyu, miso, tonkotsu, and shio bae bases, and each ramen comes with an egg, chashu, nori, bean sprouts, and green onions. Take it up a notch and opt for the new uber-spicy Godzilla Fire variety to get real wild.

5-Pounder Burrito Eating Challenge at Taco Del Mar Port Coquitlam

Taco Del Mar in Port Coquitlam is about to launch their colossal 5-pound burrito challenge for its tenth annual run. The 5-Pounder Burrito Eating Challenge asks participants to consume the taco chain’s famous 5-pound burrito in 30 minutes or less, and if they succeed it’s free. This challenge is happening for one day only – Friday, May 5 (Cinco de Mayo) from 11 am to 5 pm. If you fail, the burrito costs $30.
