The TTC has 43 subway closures planned for 2018

The TTC has 43 scheduled subway closures in 2018 due to upgrades, inspections, and repairs. This is up from 35 closures in 2017.

The increase in closures is to allow construction of the Yonge Street-Eglinton Avenue interchange station for the new Eglinton Crosstown LRT line, which is slated to be in operation by 2021. TTC workers will also continue installing the automatic train control (ATC) signalling system, which is scheduled to be complete by December 2019.

In order to provide safe, reliable and efficient service, most of the work can only be done when the subway is not operating and so a majority of the work will be completed on weekends. The TTC says that one full weekend closure is equivalent to five weeks of night work.

In addition to the 43 closures, there will also be seven late Sunday openings. The TTC says it will properly alert riders before each closure.
