Toronto could be hit with a major ice storm this weekend

Apr 11 2018, 7:47 pm

Spring has sprung and it’s been one hell of a roller coaster so far in Toronto.

Case in point, it’s supposed to rise to 15°C or 16°C tomorrow after the possibility of freezing rain in the morning. Oh, and then this weekend Environment Canada is warning of the potential for an ice storm.

So ya, buckle up.

The special weather statement was released just before 7am on Wednesday, April 11 and includes the following warning:

This has the potential to be a major ice storm for some regions with ice accumulations in excess of 20 millimetres possible. Ice accumulations of this magnitude combined with gusty winds to 60 km/h may result in widespread power outages due to fallen tree limbs and power lines. Travel is also expected to be hazardous.

Plan your weekend accordingly, Toronto. And stay safe out there.
