As Toronto is hit with its first significant snowfall of the season Thursday afternoon, drivers should prepare for a snowy commute home.

According to Environment Canada, there is currently a weather travel advisory in effect for the City of Toronto, which will remain in effect until Friday morning.

“This snowfall may have major impacts on the commute this evening as well as the commute Friday morning,” warns Environment Canada in the weather advisory issued early Thursday morning. “Motorists should plan for extra time to reach their destination.”

Environment Canada is forecasting a snowfall of 5 to 10 cm is expected across the region, with most of the snow falling tonight.

Poor winter driving conditions are expected, and they warn that untreated roads may become snow covered and slippery.
