Friendly reminder: Your commute home today is going to be really, REALLY awful

Dec 16 2016, 4:54 am

Earlier today we told you that there’s a winter travel advisory in effect in Toroto.

Well, Environment Canada updated that warning with another one around 2 pm today that looks a little something like this:

An intense band of snow is moving through the area this afternoon. Heavy snow and blowing snow are likely to produce whiteout conditions making travel dangerous at times. Snow may quickly accumulate on roads with a quick 5 to 10 cm likely. Local snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 cm are possible in some areas.

Near zero visibility in snow and blowing snow has already been reported in quite a few localities just north of Toronto and in the north end of Toronto this afternoon.

This snow band may have a significant impact on the commute home from work this afternoon and evening. Latest indications suggest the snow band should move out of the Golden Horseshoe this evening.

Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Consider postponing non-essential travel.

People have already taken to Instagram to showcase what’s happening out on the roads and it doesn’t look good:

Stay safe out there, Toronto. And be as patient as you possibly can – it’s going to be pretty dangerous on the roads for everyone tonight.
