A new figure-eight skating path is being built under the Gardiner

This winter, Torontonians will have access to quite possibly the coolest holiday activity – an outdoor skating path that winds below the Gardiner Expressway.

The new skating path, which is currently being built by The Bentway, is set to open this December and will run from near June Callwood Park to just east of the Fort York Visitor’s Centre.

The trail will be shaped like a figure-eight and will give Torontonains the opportunity to explore below the Gardiner from a whole new perspective.

Once it starts to warm up for spring, the skating path will turn into a wooden boardwalk that can be used through the warmer months. The space will then feature public markets, gardens, and an outdoor amphitheatre, and much more within the corridor between Bathurst and Strachan.

This new public space will transform the vacant and forgotten area underneath the Gardiner and will turn it into a new gathering place for residents.

So dust off your skates, winter will be here before you know it!
