The city is in shock after a shooting over the Canada Day long weekend sent multiple people to hospital.

The incident took place on Saturday night at approximately 8 pm at Queen Street and Peter Street.

Initial reports from Toronto police (TPS) described multiple shots heard and crowds of people running around in fear. Police originally reported two victims and located a third shortly after.

All three were rushed to the hospital immediately with serious injuries, with one male in life-threatening condition. Shortly after, the male, whose age and identity have not yet been released, succumbed to his injuries. The other male died overnight in hospital.

The third victim, a woman, is expected to recover from her injuries.

Two suspects, undescribed, were seen running north at the time. Police believe that the suspects may have fled in either a black SUV or a white car. At this point in time, the Homicide division of the TPS has taken over the investigation.

Queen Street remained closed for investigation overnight and was only re-opened on early Sunday morning.

More to come as this develops…
