Tornado warnings issued for several parts of Southern Ontario

Environment Canada has issued a tornado warning for several parts of the province.

The warning applies to the following regions:

  • Bancroft – Bon Echo Park
  • Brockville – Leeds and Grenville
  • City of Ottawa
  • Cornwall – Morrisburg
  • Haliburton
  • Peterborough – Kawartha Lakes
  • Prescott and Russell
  • Refrew- Pembroke- Barry’s Bay
  • Smiths Falls- Lanark – Sharbot Lake
  • Stirling – Tweet- South Frontenac

According to Environment Canada, these areas will see strong winds today that are expected to develop this afternoon and early this evening. Gusts up to 70 to 80 km/h are predicted.

“Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage,” said Environment Canada.

“Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms which may produce tornadoes.”

Earlier today, Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Toronto.
