New tapas bar opening in The Distillery District this summer

Toronto’s historic Distillery District is about to gain a brand new tapas bar.

Madrina, the latest from restaurateurs Matthew Rosenblatt and John Berman, will take over the former address of Tappo and is expected to open next month. It joins area restaurants including Cluny bistro and elevated Mexican restaurant El Catrin.

While details are still scarce, the space designed by Studio Munge will be infused with the vibrancy of Barcelona and feature various shades of red and orange, contrasting graphics, geometric floors, arched oak doorways, and an open kitchen.

BUILD IT, the company working on the project, shares with Daily Hive via email that the “place is very unique, almost everything in there is custom made.” Key features include a bar clad with handmade fluted clay tiles along with table tops finished with hand-painted tiles.

Expect the menu from Catalán Chef Ramon Simarro to deal in “modern interpretations of classic Iberian small plates.” Think tapas, paella, pintxos, and sangria.
