Coming soon to Toronto: Soufi’s from Syria with love

A Syrian kitchen specializing in maneesh and knaffeh is opening soon on Queen West.

Going into the former location of Come and Get It, the new tenant, Soufi’s bills itself as:

…a tale of two cities, a story enriched with culture, passion and family. The world of authentic Syrian cuisine meets Toronto’s modern, vibrant and welcoming atmosphere to create a food experience that will take you on a journey.

As a small, family-run resto-cafe, Soufi’s is more than just a business–it represents our roots and tells our story. Our family is yours, so come on in and let us take care of you!

When it opens at the end of June, the resto-cafe will serve savoury foods like fattoush, taboule, and maneesh, flatbreads dressed with thyme, cheese, ground meat, and various other fresh toppings.

Another house specialty will be knaffeh, a pastry spread with soft cheese and soaked with rosewater-orange scented syrup, as well as deep fried dough balls called awwameh.

While plans are still shaping up, the Soufi family hopes to give back to the Syrian community by hiring fellow Canadian newcomers as kitchen workers, offering weekly lunches, and specials benefiting Syrian aid organizations.
