Roomi free roommate finder app launches in Toronto

Toronto, your quest for a room you can afford (or a roommate who isn’t a total weirdo) is getting a helping hand.

Roomi, an app which helps you find housemates or rooms to rent, is finally launching in Canada – starting with Toronto and Vancouver.

The app, which is available for iOS, Android and on desktop, has already been downloaded more than 350,000 times in cities across the US. Now users in Canada will be able search for roommates and rooms too, with every listing vetted by Roomi’s security team before it goes live in the database.

When you sign up looking for a roommate or to post a room listing, you’re asked a range of lifestyle questions, about your pet or smoking preferences, desired location and price.

This allows room listers and potential roommates to search for housemates or shared apartments that match their own preferences.

And if you list a room, you can view and message any potential roomies that have checked out your rooms.

“Renting and co-living are becoming a long-term lifestyle choice not only for millennials, but for people of all ages in these cities,” said CEO and cofounder Ajay Yadav in a release. “We recognize the serious need for an easier way to find flexible housing solutions, but also for a safer and more effective way to find people with whom you’ll love to share that space.”

And if you’re still worried about those weirdos, the app also has a chat feature, so you can find who does the cleaning, who gets TV privileges and who parties harder, ahead of time.
