A huge concert series celebrating Toronto’s local music is taking place in October.
Red Bull Sound Select has announced its first ever collaborations and dramatic show concepts that will take over downtown venues between October 19 and 21.
The multi-day event highlights established artists while showcasing some of the best emerging artists with a diverse range of musical backgrounds and focuses. Tickets for the event are $20, with Tory Lanez and Majid Jordan among the headlining names this year.
Here is a breakdown of what to expect during this 3-day music festival:
Celebrating the upcoming release of their highly anticipated sophomore album The Space Between, OVO SOUND artists Majid Jordan will kick off 3 Days in Toronto by debuting a dance performance piece, brought to life through their collaboration with The National Ballet of Canada. The show will transform the main room at The Great Hall into a swooning scene of atmospheric song and graceful dance, featuring local ballet talents at center stage. Local R&B starlet a l l i e will support the performance within the Great Hall’s piano room, alongside up-and-coming pop producers.
Currently on the road for their fall/winter tour, night two of 3 Days in Toronto will bring Toronto jazz/hip-hop instrumentalists BADBADNOTGOOD back home for a never-before-seen show inside one of the city’s most iconic venues. Taking cues from the format made popular by The Band’s The Last Waltz, the evening will feature a series of improvisational collaborative performances from a rotating cast of musical talents, including appearances by local R&B singer/songwriter Charlotte Day Wilson, multi-instrumentalist RIVER TIBER and other special guests. Audiences should expect an evening of spontaneity and surprises.
The final night will culminate on Saturday with a showcase handpicked by Red Bull Sound Select artist Jazz Cartier, who will act as the event’s Master of Ceremonies. Tory Lanez will headline the show alongside rap-collective CMDWN and viral-hit maker KILLY.
The Red Bull Sound Select is an artist accelerator program that supports music artists by collaborating to bring their ambitious projects and ideas to life. The network consists of 18 city residencies, over 200 events each year, more than 250 artists, 50 partners and a growing list of festivals.
