Prime Minister Trudeau releases statement on the result of the US Presidential Election

Well, what can you say.

America voted, and here we are.

But no matter what you think of last night’s US Election results, some people have to say something – and one of them happens to be our Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

So earlier this morning, he did just that, releasing a simple and safe statement that sums up Canada’s past relationship with the United States:

“On behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to congratulate Donald J. Trump on his election as the next President of the United States.

“Canada has no closer friend, partner, and ally than the United States. We look forward to working very closely with President-elect Trump, his administration, and with the United States Congress in the years ahead, including on issues such as trade, investment, and international peace and security.

“The relationship between our two countries serves as a model for the world.  Our shared values, deep cultural ties, and strong integrated economies will continue to provide the basis for advancing our strong and prosperous partnership.”

As for what our future relationship looks like, one can only guess at this point. But if President-elect Trump’s words truly hold any meaning, one thing is for sure, our “shared values” will certainly be put to the test over the next four years.
