A double shooting in Toronto’s busy Entertainment District early Wednesday morning has left one man dead and another woman with injuries.
The fatal incident occurred around 12:14 am on December 19 in the area of King Street West and Spadina Avenue.
Police say multiple shots were heard in the downtown area, and when officers arrived at the scene, a man was located with vital signs absent. A woman was also located with gunshot wounds.
Both were rushed to a nearby hospital, where the man was pronounced dead and the woman’s injuries were determined non-life-threatening.
Toronto police’s homicide unit has taken over the investigation and while there is no suspect description available at this time, police said a blue car was seen fleeing the scene.
This was the city’s 95th homicide of the year, the most ever in Toronto.

Following the shooting, King Street West was closed from Spadina Avenue to Brant Street and the public was advised to avoid the area.

Additionally, while investigators were on scene, King Street was closed throughout the night between Spadina and Brant and TTC morning service on 504 King was diverting via Spadina, Queen, and Shaw in both directions.
Police activity has closed King St. at Brant St. #TTC a.m. service on 504 King will have to divert via Spadina, Queen and Shaw both ways. Buses running Dufferin to Parliament as a temporary measure. This could last all morning so leave extra time or use alternate routes.

Meanwhile, King Street has since reopened to traffic and regular TTC service has resumed.
