This incoming Toronto snack bar wants you to check your cell phone at the door

Toronto’s Parkdale neighbourhood is getting a brand new local!

Nick Peach (ex-Soho House) is taking over the Parkdale address formerly home to Raca Cafe & Bar to open Dumbo Snack Bar, a new late-night destination for cocktails, beers, and small plates.

“If the doors are open, then the kitchen is open,” says Peach in a phone call to Daily Hive before sharing that the Dumbo will operate from 8 pm to 2 am Tuesday through Saturday.

Once open, look forward to a menu including pinchos (crostini with various toppings), skewered veggies and meats like chimichurri steaks and BBQ, and a rotating line-up of eclectic bar snacks ranging from scallop ceviche to short rib and grilled cheese sandwiches.

At the bar, look forward to a rotating draught list that favours local breweries and brands, as well as, shareable cocktails like complex punch bowls, served in antique teapots.

Renovations have yet to begin but an opening date has been set for March 1. While Peach intends to keep the existing leather banquettes, the new spot (complete with back patio) aspires to a familiar and friendly local vibe.

In an effort to get patrons to unplug, Peach will also be introducing a (fully optional) system to check cellphones so that guests can enjoy a drink and the company of friends without the temptation of checking social media.
