We are seeking ambitious go-getters fascinated by media who want to work in a fun, fast-paced environment with an energetic team. Reporting to the Editor-in-Chief, the Content Editor is responsible for producing industry-leading branded content that is unique for the target market and fuels readership.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for media, penchant for editing, and leadership ability to elevate the quality of writing from those around them while working under pressure and on tight deadlines.

This is a full-time, permanent role based in downtown Vancouver.

Position responsibilities

  • Produce shareable content in a concise, compelling, and structured format.
  • Edit, proofread, and publish stories daily, ensuring they follow company standards.
  • Manage a team of full-time and freelance writers.
  • Work with the Editor-in-Chief and Content Manager to manage sponsorships and support the Content Department.
  • Manage ongoing assignments for the branded team.
  • Conduct necessary research required to produce content, which may include, but is not limited to, attending events and conducting interviews with proprietors and stakeholders.
  • Participate in planning strategies for special series, seasonal coverage, and pitches for possible story ideas.
  • Support content marketing priorities and sponsorship campaigns by collaborating closely with internal teams (sales, design, video, social media) and external stakeholders.
  • Conduct and lead meetings, both internally as well as with clients, with a proactive solution-oriented attitude.
  • Participate in periodic retrospective meetings with the team to identify wins and opportunities, contribute ideas on how to improve efficiencies, and strategize for the future.
  • Present content recommendations to sales team for client pitches, with support from Content Manager.
  • Monitor engagement of web and social content to make necessary improvements or adjustments to bring the product to new levels.
  • Develop native content opportunities based on our network audience targeting and emerging trends.
  • Monitor and track industry trends, innovations and immediate competition and apply learnings and insight to work.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Degree or diploma in English, marketing, communications, journalism, or relevant field.
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively proofread and edit content.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven experience as an effective team leader as well as the ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated digital media knowledge and expertise, including understanding of native content, content marketing, and social media best practices and tactics.
  • Proven track record in taking initiative, high productivity, and meeting deadlines.
  • A high level of accuracy, organization, and creativity while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in the use of WordPress or similar web publishing platforms.
  • Basic knowledge of HTML, photography, graphic design, and photo editing is an asset.
  • Proficiency in the use of social media platforms and interactive web applications, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Slack, and Google Analytics, is an asset.
  • Proven track record of producing content that contributes to business results.
