The movement to ban plastic straws in Canada has been steadily growing, and on April 19 Prime Minister Trudeau acknowledged that it would be an issue he’d be discussing at an upcoming meeting with other G7 leaders in June.

And this could be the last straw.

This statement comes after Britain’s Theresa May announced her government would be actively working to ban the sale of plastic straws by the end of the year.

May urged the heads of other Commonwealth nations to do the same, including Trudeau.

Trudeau stated at a press conference that there will be a lot of interest in Prime Minister May’s proposal to move forward in the fight against marine plastics.

“As you know we have made protection of our oceans, and specifically looking at plastics in the ocean, one of the key themes of our G7 Presidency and I look forward to gathering with the other G7 leaders to discuss this issue and the various solutions they put forward,” said Trudeau.

He continued to say that he was looking forward to the discussion on how to eliminate single-use plastics.
