Snow and freezing rain expected to kick off New Year in Montreal

Dec 31 2018, 1:08 am

The Montreal area could be in for cold, challenging conditions to kick off the new year.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement, in effect for the following areas:

  • Châteauguay – La Prairie area
  • Laval area
  • Longueuil – Varennes area
  • Montréal Island area

According to the statement, a low-pressure system is coming in from the American Midwest, and it is expected to bring significant snowfall amounts over parts of Quebec.

Depending on how it moves through the province, Montreal could be seeing the system in the form of snow, along with freezing rain.

The system will be moving through Quebec on Monday evening and through the middle of Tuesday, meaning that your New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day could be covered in flurries.

Be sure to bundle up and if you are driving, give extra time going to and from your destination.
