Jul 5 2018, 8:36 pm

A smog warning has been issued for Montreal.

According to Environment Canada, “high concentrations of ozone are expected and will result in poor air quality.”

Levels of air pollutants will be high today. The warning is in effect for the following regions:

  • Châteauguay – La Prairie area
  • Laval area
  • Longueuil – Varennes area
  • Montréal Island area

“Smog especially affects asthmatic children and people with respiratory ailments or heart disease. It is therefore recommended that these individuals avoid intense physical activity outdoors until the smog warning is lifted,” said Environment Canada in a statement.

The weather agency suggests we can all help improve air quality by doing simple things, such as using public transit, reducing our driving speed and not letting our car engines idle unnecessarily.
