Sex education will be mandatory for Quebec elementary and high school students as of next year.

Education Minister Sébastien Proulx made the announcement on Thursday morning.

According to CBC, the program is based on a 2015 pilot project, which encouraged teachers to incorporate sex education into their curriculum.

Next year, nearly one million students in the province will learn about age-appropriate sexual health topics, including anatomy, appropriate touching, safe sex, healthy relationships, and sexual assault.
