As the summer calendar flips to August, the dangerous, muggy and uncomfortable temperatures of July will persist throughout the first week of the month as this weekend’s weather is slated to feel like 40 degrees.

According to the Weather Network, the kind of heat wave that resulted in both deaths and water shortages in July, will hit the Greater Montreal area on Saturday and stick around until Tuesday.

Temperatures are expected to spike by 5°C from Tuesday morning’s 23°C, and the city will feel like 36°C on Thursday and Friday before hitting a 40°C humidex value on Sunday.

Besides uncomfortable sleeping conditions of 22°C throughout the week’s nights, we’re also expecting thunderstorm risks on Wednesday and Thursday.

Especially throughout the weekend, there are risks to young children, pregnant women, older adults and people with chronic illness is high.

In keeping safe, it is recommended that citizens drink plenty of water, wear breathable clothing, hats and sunscreen and people are urged to check-in on vulnerable neighbours, friends and family members.

Stay cool this week, Montreal.
