National Hockey League players are paid handsomely, and the Montreal Canadiens’ roster is no exception.
The team’s best and highest paid player is goaltender Carey Price, whose $15 million salary in 2018-19 ranks only behind Toronto’s John Tavares ($15.9 million) in the entire league. The former Hart Trophy winner will make more than double any of his Habs teammates this season.
Price, who carries just a $10.5 million cap hit, is beginning the first year of an eight-year, $84 million contract extension.

Well below Price in terms of salary this season is new captain Shea Weber, whose pay ($6 million) is actually lower than his cap hit of $7.86 million.
While Price and Weber being at the top of the table makes sense, there are plenty of other players whose salary doesn’t match up with their production.
The team’s third-highest paid player, Karl Alzner, has already been a healthy scratch this season for instance. He will make $6 million this season.
Meanwhile, Montreal’s leading scorer from last year, Brendan Gallagher, is a bargain making just $3 million.
