“Employers that are making plans for job-creating investments in Canada will often need an experienced leader, dynamic researcher or an innovator with unique skills not readily available in Canada to make that investment happen,” said Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship, Ahmed Hussen in a statement.

“The Global Skills Strategy aims to give those employers confidence that when they need to hire from abroad, they’ll have faster, more reliable access to top talent.”

The strategy, which includes four pillars, will allow high-skilled workers coming to Canada temporarily to benefit from a two-week processing of work permits and temporary visas, when necessary.

Permits for spouses and study permits will be processed within a two-week span when applicable.

“The Global Skills Strategy will allow Canadian employers, who are investing in people and skills here in Canada, to continue to grow by attracting top talent from around the world,” said Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science, and Economic Development, in a statement.

“Whether it’s developing a new product line or leading a new sales team, bringing in the best and the brightest from around the world will result in more good-quality, middle-class jobs for Canadians.”

The two-week work permit went into effect on June 12, 2017.
