As the Just for Laughs festival sums up at the end of July, the Quartier des Spectacles will swap out comedians for culture with the First Nations festival.

One of the oldest and most storied communities in all of the Americas will be celebrating their joyous culture for a week-long festival from August 7 to 15.

The festival will host a vast array of food, cinematography, poetry reading, electro concerts and dance, connecting the city to the Kahnesetake pine forest, in honouring the history of Canada’s First People.

The entire Quartier will be transformed into a glowing First Nations village complete with parades, music, dancing, puppets, theatre plays and costumes.

The 28th edition of the festival will bridge Montreal and the First Nation community with aboriginal heritage.

“Montreal is a city surrounded by moving water, so it needs to be open to every current,” says the Quartier des Spectacles website. “It needs to welcome and nourish them. It is an exchange that brings a new dimension to Montreal’s great diversity.
