Mayor Denis Coderre says if he’s re-elected he will build a new sports complex in Lachine.

“We heard the call from the citizens of Lachine and Catherine Ménard’s team is really dedicated to putting the sports complex project in motion. It is important that the boroughs have modern facilities that meet the needs of the various clienteles,” said Coderre in a statement.

“Thus, the future Lachine complex will include both 50m swimming pools, which will accommodate various competitions, and shallow recreational pools for swimming lessons and family accessibility.”

According to Catharine Ménard, Team Coderre’s candidate for Lachine, the new building will be a “real sports complex” with double gymnasiums.

“At this time, our athletes have to borrow facilities from the Marguerite-Bourgeoys School Board and Collège Sainte-Anne, but they are no longer sufficient to meet the demand, ” Ménard.

“In addition, the construction of such a complex will allow us to relocate the activities currently taking place at the Albert-Gariépy Center. We will, therefore, be able to restore the school’s vocation to this building and thus meet the needs for primary schools in eastern Lachine.”

Currently, Team Coderre is looking into building the complex at the back of the Dalbé-Viau secondary school.
