You can watch your favourite Christmas movies in theatres this year

It’s the most wonderful time of the year.

The holidays are just around the corner, and with them comes the joy of watching Christmas movies.

And this year, Cineplex will be screening some of the best Christmas classics on the big screen.

Starting this month, moviegoers can enjoy eight-year-old Kevin McCallister’s adventures in Home Alone; relive the magic of Miracle On 34th Street (1947); laugh along with Will Ferrell as ‘Buddy’ in the instant classic, Elf; go on an immersive adventure aboard the Polar Express in 3D; get swept away by the hit Broadway production Irving Berlin’s Holiday Inn based on the Fred Astaire and Bing Crosby classic film Holiday Inn; experience a beloved holiday tradition at The Nutcracker as performed by the Bolshoi Ballet; and reunite with the all-star cast of Love Actually.

The films will be playing at select theatres across Canada starting on November 25.

Home Alone – A Family Favourites Presentation

A true holiday favourite, this beloved comedy classic is festive fun for the whole family. Macaulay Culkin stars as Kevin McCallister, an eight-year-old boy who is accidentally left behind when his family flies to Paris for their Christmas vacation. At first, Kevin enjoys his newfound independence, but soon has to defend his home against two bumbling burglars’ attempts to break-in.

Miracle On 34th Street (1947) – A Classic Film Series Presentation

In this Christmas classic, an old man going by the name of Kris Kringle (Edmund Gwenn) fills in for an intoxicated Santa in Macy’s annual Thanksgiving Day Parade. Kringle proves to be such a hit that he is soon appearing regularly at the chain’s main store in midtown Manhattan. When Kringle surprises customers and employees alike by claiming that he really is Santa Claus, it leads to a court case to determine his mental health and, more importantly, his authenticity.

Buddy (Will Ferrell) was accidentally transported to the North Pole as a toddler and raised to adulthood among Santa’s elves. Unable to shake the feeling that he doesn’t fit in, the adult Buddy travels to New York, in full elf uniform, in search of his real father. As it happens, this is Walter Hobbs (James Caan), a cynical businessman. After a DNA test proves this, Walter reluctantly attempts to start a relationship with the childlike Buddy with increasingly chaotic results.

Bolshoi Ballet: The Nutcracker

This classic tale tells the story of Marie, a young girl whose wooden nutcracker doll mysteriously transforms into a beautiful prince on Christmas Eve. They embark on a magical journey through an enchanting dreamscape of fantastic creatures, places and events before finally arriving at the palace of the beautiful Sugar Plum Fairy. Danced by the Bolshoi’s principals, Russian ballet master Yuri Grigorovich’s staging of E. T. A. Hoffmann’s fairy tale will transport children and adults alike to a world of magic and wonder for the holiday season.

The festivities are interrupted by a group of terrorists who take over the exclusive high-rise, and everyone in it. Very soon McClane realizes that there’s no one to save the hostages but him.
