With a variety of summer festivals in full swing, here’s a list of ten cool things happening in and around Montreal for those of you looking to add a little life to your weekend!

Friday, July 28

’77 Montreal

If punk music is your thing, then tonight is surely not to be missed. With a massive line-up including legends like Rancid, “X”, The Dropkick Murphys, The Vandalls, and much more, Montreal’s biggest, official punk festival goes down tonight.

Aura

If you’re out for a romantic stroll in the Old Port tonight, you should stop by the Notre-Dame Basilica for a show you’re not likely to forget. Moment Factory have taken the architectural landmark over in signature style creating a unique experience that melds architecture, music and masterful lighting together.

Just For Laughs

The world’s largest comedy fest in winding down and as always, they’ve saved the best for last. If you missed out on comedy greats Jerry Seinfeld and Gad yesterday, you can still catch others like Judd Apatow, local favourite Sugar Sammy and the cast of the Nasty Show tonight, and throughout the rest of the weekend.

Saturday, July 29

L’International des Feux

Already coming to an end next weekend, England closes out the competition tomorrow night. With a show entitled Gunpowder and Greasepaint, the show takes watchers on a musical journey to Broadway and the Opera with toe-tapping displays to classics from Les Mis, The Phantom of The Opera, Cats and more.

Montreal ePrix by Hydro QC

Presented by Hydro Quebec, the all-electric Formula E FIA Championship races through our city streets this weekend, quite literally. Unlike its ever popular F1 counterpart, this race will be happening right in the heart of the city on Saturday with concerts activities getting underway as of 8 am. Tickets are still available.

Metaphysical Show

If crystals and chakras are more your speed, be sure to stop the first annual Metaphysical Show of Montreal, featuring over 40 exhibitors of products and services related to metaphysics. Everything from jewellery and gemstones, to alternative medicines, music, tarot and reiki readings and life coaching is on offer. Entrance and parking are free and the event is open to all.

Festival des Arts Saint-Sauveur

With the weather being as nice at is this weekend, you might as well take advantage and head out of town for a little escape. One way to do ensure that is to get lost in the world of movement and dance at the Festival des Arts Saint-Sauveur. Celebrating all things music, choreography and dance, this unique art festival, led by creative director Guillaume Cote, is sure to be a refreshing change to your usual.

Sunday, July 30

Bouffons MTL

Coming to a close this Sunday, Montreal’s newest summer food event Bouffons Mtl is the perfect stop for delicious gourmet eats, under the sun, or stars. Open all day and well into the night, the open-air gourmet food village located on the Esplanade Clark and St Catherine and features treats from favourite local restaurants across the city.

Festival Lanaudiere

If a classic Sunday in the park is what you’re after, make sure to take a short drive out to Joliette for the Le Festival de Lanaudiere. Open to everyone, this classical music festival has everything from concerts to movies and extra special church performances, with prices ranging from free upwards.

Place des Anges

If getting out of the city is not an option, you can still enjoy the arts for free right here in the city with a magical performance by France’s Gratte Cielle company’s “Place Des Anges” show. Happening at the Cartier des spectacles, this free street performance is taking place as part of the Montreal 350th celebrations on the grounds of Place Des Arts.
