The Weather Network releases Calgary's long-term spring forecast

It’s been quite a winter for Calgary, but spring is officially on the way.

With 22 days of our least favourite the season left (but who’s counting?), The Weather Network has released its national spring forecast to give us the low down on what we can expect.

The days will get longer, but will Calgary get a warm, sunny spring or a rainy one?

“While dramatic swings in weather are a normal part of the season, this spring looks to have a particularly volatile mood,” said Chris Scott, chief meteorologist with The Weather Network.

According to the long-term forecast, “spring weather will be delayed this year as we expect a colder than normal March and early April across the Prairies.”

This cooler weather pattern will reduce the risk of flooding from spring thaw, although The Weather Network states that soil moisture will be a concern for parts of the region after a dry summer last year and below normal snowfall through the winter.

“There are indications that spring will feature a more active weather pattern across the southern Prairies, bringing some relief from the very dry conditions,” states the forecast. “However, confidence in this part of the forecast is low, but having the wetter pattern verify is especially important as we expect a warm and dry pattern as we head into summer.”

So, while warmer temperatures are just around the corner, expect cooler days for now… until summer at least, which is 114 days away (but who’s counting that done too…).
